Beginning the Journey

As someone who was born in the 60's, went to high school in the 80's, and teaching to students born in the 90's, I am woefully unprepared for the technological world they inhabit. As I am trying to adapt to omnipresence of technology, this blog is a documentation of the journey from technological illegal immigrant to a naturalized technological citizen. I cannot hide from technology, so I am going to throw caution to the wind, unpack my fears, and journey to mastering technology to better reach my students in a format they will embrace.

Day 9

I looked at so many things yesterday and today, my mind is in a blur. I would like to use multiple forms of communication with my students and give them the opportunity to experiment with technology, but that requires me moving beyond the "I know what it is" stage and into the "I know how to manipulate it" stage. I finally have my user name and password for Atomic learning, and I am going to be getting on there and trying to get a more secure handle on the more sophisticated functions of the active boards, create a blog for my classroom (I got that cleared through the district office), google docs, and Animoto. We do a multi-genre research paper as an end of the quarter project, and I think we could really use technology to engage our students on levels that we have never seen before.
