Beginning the Journey

As someone who was born in the 60's, went to high school in the 80's, and teaching to students born in the 90's, I am woefully unprepared for the technological world they inhabit. As I am trying to adapt to omnipresence of technology, this blog is a documentation of the journey from technological illegal immigrant to a naturalized technological citizen. I cannot hide from technology, so I am going to throw caution to the wind, unpack my fears, and journey to mastering technology to better reach my students in a format they will embrace.

Day 21

I read today's blog on Dr. Z reflects and could have stood on my chair and applauded. As teachers we need to let go of our notions that the only way a child can read is through a basal textbook or paper novel. Our students want their reading to come at them in a variety of ways and they want the flexibility to read it in whatever format they have . . . Kindle, Iphone, whatever. I think we need to change with our students instead of demanding that they do things the way WE DID it.
